What is CBD oil?
CBD oil is a cannabis extract that contains significant amounts of cannabidiol (CBD) and little to no tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It is made from the flowers, leaves and stems of the hemp plant.
There are many uses for CBD oil, from treating chronic pain to helping people with insomnia to relieving anxiety.
What is CBD?
CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol and it is a cannabis-derived product. It is one of 104 substances derived from hemp and cannabis plants. The leaves and flowers of these plants contain cannabinoids such as CBD.
Another well-known cannabinoid substance is THC or tetrahydrocannabinol. Even though CBD and THC are both different substances, people confuse them. However, there is one big difference: THC can get you high, while CBD cannot. That’s why we need to make sure we know the difference between the two.
Since a few years, many different products have been produced in which CBD is a prominent ingredient. The most popular form for this is CBD oil because these CBD drops allow you to dose precisely. CBD is quickly absorbed into your bloodstream because it soaks through the mucous membranes in your mouth.
How is CBD oil produced?
CBD oil usually contains CBD extract diluted with olive oil or hemp seed oil. Most CBD oil is produced by CO2 extraction, a technique that preserves the various cannabinoids in the oils. CO2-extracted oil contains many natural healing properties and the CBD in it has been shown to work better with other cannabinoids such as CBN and CBG. CBD oils produced using CO2 extraction are often called RAW variants.
Another way CBD can be made is by extracting it from the seeds of hemp plants. This extraction process involves taking the top part of the plant. The final extraction is done by heating, which causes all other cannabinoids to be lost. In fact, this oil contains only CBD as a cannabinoid. CBD oils are usually extracted from the extract of the plant. The oil extract may have a somewhat nutty taste, while the RAW varieties may have a bitter taste.
Did you know that your body also makes its own CBD? The endocannabinoid system is a complex network of cannabinoid receptors that manages vital body functions. It was identified more than three decades ago and has been proven to be crucial to several important body processes. There are many factors that influence how we experience pain and our sleep proceeds, the presence of (body’s own) cannabinoid is one of them.
How do I know if the CBD product is of good quality?
We understand your question. There are also so many different providers of CBD products on the market. Because we produce the CBD supplements we sell ourselves, we are able to keep a close eye on the production process. The final products are also constantly tested for consistent, high quality.
How to use it
There are different types of CBD products that can be consumed in different ways.
Oral intake
CBD oil products often come in a small bottle equipped with a pipette. The pipette allows you to apply exactly the number of drops of CBD oil you want under your tongue. If you take it this way, it will be absorbed faster by your mucous membrane and processed by the body. You can also dilute the oil with water or juice and then drink it or add it to a dish.
CBD oil has too strong an unpleasant taste for some people. For those who don’t want to taste the liquid, CBD capsules offer an easy way to dose. CBD capsules are filled with the same oil from the bottles, but when capsules are swallowed, they find their way through the stomach and then into the intestines, without having to experience the taste of the oil. In this case, it takes a little longer for the CBD to be absorbed into your body, however, the CBD will remain active longer.
When CBD is taken orally, the active ingredients are active after 30 minutes and remain in the body for about 6-8 hours.
External use
The CBD skin products are suitable for external use in humans and animals. The CBD ointment penetrates the skin through the pores and hair follicles. If you choose this dosage form for an animal with a thick coat, it is best to shave the hair in the affected area first. This will allow your pet to absorb the CBD faster and more efficiently, and you won’t be wasting CBD cream.
When CBD is applied externally, the active ingredients are usually only active locally. In this case, the CBD will only enter your bloodstream to a limited extent.
Vaporizing
Vaporizing is nothing more than vaporizing a liquid. Vaporizing CBD drops with a vaporizer ensures a relaxed absorption of the active substances. In the process, no burning takes place and the body is not exposed to toxic substances. Because the CBD is inhaled, it can be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs.
CBD drops should be diluted with a so-called e-liquid. This is a liquid with which you can vaporize. The active substances from the CBD oil will remain active in the body for about 2-4 hours and gradually work out.
How do you measure one drop?
CBD oil comes in a convenient, easy-to-use bottle. When the cap is pressed, it sucks up the oil from the glass tube (pipette). You can gently squeeze the pipette to get one drop of liquid from the glass tube. Usually, a 10 ml bottle contains 200 drops and a 30 ml bottle contains about 600 drops.
Who is it suitable for?
Human and animal bodies both have endocannabinoid systems, which in turn means that CBD – one of the most popular cannabinoids in the industry – is effective in both. The weight of the person or animal affects how many milligrams of CBD should be taken. The dosage for children can also vary, but for younger children (<10 years) we recommend a light concentration. Although it is always wise to seek advice from your doctor first.
Are CBD and THC legal?
In the Netherlands, the demand for products containing CBD has been increasing rapidly in recent years. However, there is a lot of uncertainty about its legal status. In the Netherlands, the sale and use of CBD is 100% legal. This is because the oil contains no or only a negligible amount of THC. THC is the psychoactive substance found in cannabis plants and is responsible for causing a ‘high’. We are therefore not allowed to offer any products that contain THC.
Besides CBD and THC, there are also other substances present in hemp and cannabis plants, such as CBG and CBN. CBG and CBN products do not contain any narcotic, high-giving properties and are used as an alternative for people who react badly to CBD containing items.
We have ensured that you cannot get high from the products in our webshop, so it is legal to order them. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
What percentage of CBD?
Some people are more sensitive to cannabis oils or have conditions to which a low concentration of CBD responds well. Green Element offers products with a concentration of CBD ranging between 2.5 and 20%. The CBD content in a 2.5% jar of this product would be at least 250 mg, based on the 10 ml volume. For children and pets under 15 kg, we recommend a 2.5% bottle of CBD oil. The higher percentages are suitable for adults and large pets.
It happens that we get the question whether we can produce CBD oil with a high percentage of CBD, that is certainly possible. We like to think along with you and make a product to your liking.
Which dosage?
The right dose of CBD is an important but difficult question for many people. What is the right dosage?
The dose of CBD depends on the person and the strength of the product, so always start with a low dose. Most people work up to their optimal level gradually. We send clear instructions with every order.
What is the difference between hemp and cannabis (the weed plant)?
It is generally thought that hemp and cannabis plants are the same. Although both plants have quite a bit in common, hemp plants are mainly used for industrial and medicinal purposes, while cannabis plants are mainly used recreationally. The hemp plant and cannabis plant are related but have different concentrations of substances. THC is considered the substance that causes a “high,” while CBD does not produce psychedelic effects. Hemp plants contain CBD and little THC, while cannabis plants contain a lot of THC with less CBD. TetraHydroCannabinol (THC for short) is the compound that gets you stoned (or high). That is why it is forbidden to buy, sell or use in the Netherlands and many other countries.
Learn more about the hemp plant
There are some things you may not know about hemp plants. For example, hemp plants have the strongest natural fibers and can be used for over 50,000 different applications.
Hemp can be used for things like cardboard, paper, packaging material and plastic. Because of the various cannabinoids found in flowers, they are used for dietary supplements and edibles. CBD oil, for example, is made from the flowers and is an effective dietary supplement for inflammation and certain neurological disorders. Hemp seeds are known to be rich in vitamins and minerals, proteins and essential fatty acids. You can use these seeds to produce hemp seed oil, hemp milk, cosmetics and industrial materials such as paint. Hemp plants have been used for a variety of purposes throughout history, from food to clothing. One common use is as a fertilizer. They also have the added benefit of being able to clean up toxic sites through phytoremediation (restoring the natural balance through plants).
Hemp is a plant that is very easy to grow, which creates potential to grow hemp on a large scale. As long as the environment is taken into account, growing hemp can be very sustainable. Hemp plants can grow up to 3 meters tall in 100 days and are very effective at controlling stubborn weeds. This is why we use fewer pesticides and fertilizers.
Learn more about the cannabis plant
Unlike the hemp plant, the marijuana plant (cannabis) contains large amounts of THC. THC is the main ingredient in marijuana that will get you high if ingested enough.
Cannabis plants differ from their counterparts in that they contain higher levels of THC, which means that the bulk of it is not the buds themselves, but rather the “flower tops” (buds). THC is extracted from these flower tops. A marijuana plant, unlike a hemp plant, is not able to fight weeds naturally.
One difference between marijuana and hemp is the smell. Weed (also called cannabis or marijuana) has a very strong, overpowering smell that you can smell from afar. Hemp is much less likely to be smelled.
Growing hemp plants is legal in most countries, and growing them generally does not pose significant legal risks. However, growing cannabis plants poses many risks due to their high THC concentration and can lead to criminal charges. In most countries, growing cannabis is severely punished. In the Netherlands, however, there is a policy of tolerance that does not impose a fine on people who buy 5 grams of cannabis in a coffee shop. Green Element does not sell THC-based products.
What is the difference between CBD and cannabis oil?
CBD and cannabis oils are often confused with each other, but they do not have the same properties. Marijuana oil is extracted from cannabis plants, which contain high levels of THC – also found in the plant’s buds, which are available at coffee shops and cafes. Plants grown primarily for recreational purposes are primarily cannabis plants that have a high concentration of THC.
CBD Oil is made from the hemp plant. Hemp is a cannabis plant but contains only minuscule amounts of THC making CBD oil safe for consumption. However, this plant does contain many other cannabinoids such as CBD, CBG and CBN. CBD is not psychoactive. It is usually used medicinally to relieve pain or create calm. Because CBD was not considered very important in the past, breeders focused mainly on increasing the THC content. Because people often want to be sedated or get high, (illegal) breeders started to grow new plant species that contained more and more THC and less and less CBD. Hemp plants, on the other hand, contain mostly CBD and other non-psychoactive compounds. Green Element only uses hemp plants.
CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant, which can be grown completely legally. CBD oil can be used for anyone suffering from various health problems. It is sold in most pharmacies and dispensaries. The THC must be less than 0.2% to be sold legally.
CBD oil and cannabis oil can both be diluted to meet your needs. The undiluted versions are viscous in nature. This thicker, sticky substance can be diluted with a natural oil, such as olive oil or hemp seed oil. After this, you’ll have a good liquid, sufficiently diluted CBD oil, ready for use!
